As I was imagining what THIS YEAR’S MUG would look like, the words that kept coming to my mind were; “calm”, “peaceful”, “comforting”, “restful” and a space to feel held. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ At the Restorable Retreat and various safe spaces that I meet with women, I hear how their restoration is hard, daunting, exhausting & painful, and we often imagine how it might be a similar task to restore a broken down truck. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Taking a grinder, welder or crow bar toward a beat-up, wreck-of-a-thing does not exactly scream; peaceful, calm, restful or comforting. In fact the restoring process often feels exhausting & hard. But, here’s the thing, WE ARE NOT THE MECHANIC IN THE JUNKYARD. RATHER, WE ARE THE TRUCK THAT NEEDS TO LIE DOWN AND REST WHILE THE EXPERT DOES THE RESTORING WORK. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Similarly, the restoring of our souls has a whole lot less to do with our efforts. Sure, the choice to surrender, die to self and show up honestly with God can feel risky and vulnerable…which IS very HARD (at first). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But, from what I am seeing - rest comes when we stop fearing, fighting, and freaking out. It is felt when we stop arguing, wrestling, ruminating & begging (though parts of these things are not all together bad). A calm often comes after we release, let go and surrender. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Peace doesn’t show up when we try to fix ourselves, but rather is often a result of daily telling God all about it and asking Him to carry it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Ultimately when we choose to trust our soul restorer, WE FIND OUR BURDEN IS LIGHTER. Breath can once again fill our lungs as we rest in the comfort of BELIEVING HE WON’T LET US GO! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ SO, POUR A LARGE HOT CUP OF SOMETHING INTO A MUG THAT LOOKS LIKE A CALM HOLDING SPACE, AND POUR YOUR HEART OUT TO THE ONE WHO KNOWS. The voices in her head were telling her how awful the photos would be...and worse, how unworthy she was. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Then, in God's kindness - He personally, intimately and (I'd say) miraculously intervened. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Through a new song that blared loudly over the radio, she sensed God speaking louder than the voices in her head. God chose to use this moment to interrupt the fear, anxiety and false beliefs with the Truth that could usher Michelle to freedom! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And as this anxiety filled session began to unfold, I got to witness this beautiful woman being captured with joy, laughter and barefoot-dancing-in-the-grass freedom. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This session was more than just pictures. It was an experience. At the restorable retreat, as well as in Coaching, we don’t look at the bright side to negate the dark side. And, we don’t look at the dark side to deny the bright side. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We look at BOTH. BOTH are true. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Acknowledging the dark as well as the light feels so honest and helpful in moments where hope feels thin. AND, I will say, it is not always easy, YET it is a kindness to ourselves when we start with honesty, isn’t it? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Bringing all of our true self to the ONE who can wash white HOPE over what has felt so dark and rough, is often a first step in moving towards restoration. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So, the women at the retreat went home with a mug that reminds them to take TIME to be honest about their hard stuff AS WELL AS the good stuff. To my friends who are walking in the shadows...the valley...their "it". ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I sent an email out today to share a freebie from the Restorable Retreat Workbook. A tool to help you get through "it" today. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A simple...or, possibly, difficult tool to do. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In the workbook, I call the tool - "remember". ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The writer in Lamentations 3 poured his heart out, telling of how hard his "it" was. Then, in verse 21, he made a shift from his lamenting when he said, "but this I call to mind, therefore I have hope". ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What he called to mind was God's faithfulness and His mercy that showed up every fresh morning. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ He told himself how God had been merciful and faithful in the past, so that he could have hope for his current hard thing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This hope anchored his soul and helped him continue to move forward so that his "it" would cause him to become better not bitter. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Sooo... if YOU would like a tool from the retreat workbook, then take a moment (now if you can) and write down a story of how God showed up in the past and helped you through something. I don't know.. how can a mom find words to express the joy that she feels when looking at a gift that God has given her son? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ How can I put into words the gratitude that I feel as I no longer have to hold back, but I now get to freely welcome a new and beautiful member to our family?... Last Saturday, I was surrounded by amazing people who were happy to get some updated photos, but mostly ... I think... they were so happy to support me in this crazy Belize trip thing! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The day was not overly busy (as I thought it "should" be) with me sweating all day out in the heat.. rather, God chose to bring in just a few sessions. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And, honestly?... I wrestled with concern as the days and weeks led up to this fundraiser. I THOUGHT it was supposed to be filled with session after session after session.. BUT rather, God used this precious day to remind me that HE is the ONE who does the hard work to provide what I truly need. And hard, sweaty, all- day-work is not (apparently) what I needed. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What I did need was to be loved by a few precious families.. and that He gave me. What I also needed was sincere eyes looking at me, who were happy to get updated pictures, but (I think) they were even more happy to support me in this crazy Belize Vision Trip! AND... what God knew I also needed was the joy of being creative with my camera, capturing people in meaningful ways.. and if I would have done that non-stop, all day, my creativity would have tanked, as well as my heart for authentic photography! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ SO ... God, thank YOU for providing for this Belize trip.. Our annual put my camera on a timer and run back and forth for the family vacation photo! And, these always make me smile! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So, we're back!!! And, vacation was wonderful! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ NOW, to all of you who asked me about the "plus ONE"... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Our family is so grateful to welcome our soon to be daughter-in-law, Kayla!! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Zak (our oldest son) is receiving a beautiful answer to prayer, and our whole family is experiencing so much life and joy as we soak in the gift of their relationship, and the expanding of our family.. I think I have felt just about every emotion while trying to discern if I should say "yes" or "no" to an invite for a vision trip. In short... I said "yes"! I am going to Belize in November, and my fear and reluctance emotions have been settling to make room for the peace and joy emotion!! Woohoo...I'm going to Belize! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This trip is going to be with @aim_org for the purpose of beginning a new restoration and rehabilitation work for women and children. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Maybe you heard me talking about this organization. Its the amazing 18 year old mission that has been thriving in Cambodia so that women & girls may be rescued from sex-trafficking ..BUT AIM did more! They have ALSO created a safe environment for the MEN to come and hear that, because of Jesus, there is HOPE for them too!! I. LOVE. I'm praying about a potential opportunity that I have been invited into. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This opportunity makes my stomach sick. It puts a lump in my throat... I'm scared. Yet, somehow at the same time, I'm excited about something potentially amazing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And as I consider this decision, my counselor asked me.. We asked God for a change in the forecast. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Instead... it rained. Alot. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And like we say at the #restorableretreat ... God might not restore our circumstances, but rather, He might use our circumstance to restore our soul! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Becca & Nick wanted a beautiful outdoor wedding... the forecast did not. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Their circumstance didn't change to accommodate their "plan A" day.. I got to spend time with a friend today. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We walked. We talked. We laughed. We may have wiped away some tears. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We simply took time to be our UN-hidden selves... together. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We allowed space in our schedules to listen, as well as space in our hearts to speak what is real. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We were heard, validated, & encouraged to be our best selves.... and, I am once again reminded of the power of community! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Have you made the choice (recently) to reach out to someone that you trust? Have you heard that I am scaling back a bit with photography? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ NOT EASY! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Except that its for such good reason. Cause, each time I (we) say "yes" to something, doesn't that almost always require saying "no" to something? ..and vice versa..right?? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Basically, as God has grown this lil' photography business, I am also aware that my kids are growing, and they are my favorite "yes"! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So, its the kids that are causing me to scale back a bit, but it is ALSO this life coaching thing that I have been growing into. I call it "hope coaching".. and OH MY... IT IS SOOO AMAZING TO GET TO DO THIS!!! I absolutely LOVE supporting women as they move towards hope, healing, restoration and freedom! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I love it.. and I need to make more room for it... which means I am saying "no" a bit more to photography. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ BUT... when I shoot amazing couples for their 50th anniversary... "I was sitting in a room with a crowd of people. People that I never met before. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I must’ve been in an insecure place in my mind.. Or maybe, just grumpy. Suffice it to say, I was likely having a bad day. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As I sat there, sort of singing, and sort of looking around the room, I suddenly realized that I was having negative thoughts about those around me. It's sort of embarrassing but I was judging others based on the very little bit that I was seeing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ For some, I felt compassion, but for others… I felt criticism. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I was sitting in a church we visited for a Black Friday service, just one year ago. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We were all facing the same direction, singing, and attempting to spill out words that were true about the One who created all of us. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And, then, God reminded me of a picture from the junkyard. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The church is sort of like that junkyard picture. We, the church, are a whole line up ones with brokenness who are longing for restoration. We long for perfect Love. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This picture spoke a grace over me that I was able to receive for my negative thinking.. She's not quite sure how she feels about her body changing while growing two babies at one time. (who wouldn't?) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ YET... she bravely stepped in front of the camera because she knows that this external change is evidence of an internal miracle, that (while not easy) she is honored to be part of. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Ladies, it's so confusing, isn't it? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Our bodies are what people see, and our culture somehow influences us to believe that our value comes from the appearance of our physical bodies. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Girls!!! While it is totally fun to look nice and put together a cute outfit... please hear me... OUR VALUE DOES NOT COME FROM WHAT WE LOOK LIKE!! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ How can it, when our outward appearance changes from the time we are born until our old and wrinkly bodies no longer breathe? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Our outward appearance demonstrates the season of life we are in, and communicates the value of our various seasons. And each season is being used to shape and mold us into a deeper beauty that will be shown in our future seasons, and tell the story of us. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Friends, our value comes from the ONE who made us and loves us perfectly and unconditionally! HE doesn't change, and He is valuable! He is a good maker, and we can be proud to be a masterpiece of the master craftsman! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ God declared us a good creation, and that declaration cannot be taken away just because our outward appearance changes... right??!! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Besides, look at how this courageous new mom is adored by her husband. my husband and I are heading out for our annual anniversary get away!! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This year we are glamping off grid, and while we are excited and have always loved the outdoors & camping... uummm…their will be a composting toilet (aka... outhouse). It is just over 1 month now since the Restorable Retreat... and I just want to let you all know... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ IT. WAS. AMAZING. AGAIN. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I don't know how or why God does it, but each year He tenderly meets each woman in very unique and personal ways, and I am in awe. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ They came because they new they needed time... it was TIME! TIME to acknowledge how their "it" was impacting them. TIME to see how God wanted to care for them in the midst of their "it". Its DAY 5 of #restorableretreat HOST INTROS! Let me introduce you to the busted up, broken and restorable.. ME! I'm the girl who dreamed of being a stay-at-home wife and mom. That's it. Not much more other than clothesline laundry, trying new recipes & cuddling. But, God has a way of saying, “Yup.. but I have MORE for you!”. And, now through my own “ashes”, God has been creating beautiful things. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ After the 1st thought of hosting this retreat back in Fall of 2018, I wrestled and argued for a whole year. But God didn't take it away, rather it kept quietly growing in my heart. So, one year later, in the Fall of 2019 I invited a group of women to pray about this crazy, too big, weird idea.. and shortly after, my lil’ photography business paid a deposit for a weekend at a bed & breakfast with a long farmhouse table to gather with a group of broken women. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ God was right.. He does have more for me (& you)! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ That first ever 2020 Restorable Retreat was absolutely amazing.. even more amazing then I imagined it to be back at the 1st thought in 2018! And, so was the 2021 retreat! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ He used this retreat to not only comfort others with the comfort that I have received, but also to breathe life into me as I stepped an unknown, too-big, too-hard thing. And, now, our 3rd Restorable Retreat is happening in just ONE MONTH!! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Ladies, I go forward with my brokenness too! Meet your, very impactful, Restorable Retreat Prayer Team! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ These ladies receive authentic requests from my heart, like; “I’m too weak for this, please ask God to be my strength in weakness”! And, requests like… “my wi-fi is out.. please pray for God to show me what to work hard at and what to surrender during this retreat prep time”. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The prayer team will also receive requests from attending retreat ladies. Life can feel a bit blurry at times... Sometimes, moms just know. They feel it. Its time. I can feel a bit hesitant when I say that part of the #restorableretreat includes 2 mini photoshoots. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ One to capture your "it", and one to capture your hope & freedom. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My hesitation is because so many of you FEAR (like absolutely LOATHE!) having your picture taken... especially in such a raw emotional state. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ THAT IS UNDERSTANDABLE. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And, I won't try to talk you out of your fears, or minimize your feelings... . Last year I felt so proud of the #RestorableRetreat ladies. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ They chose to move toward hope, despite their hard & heavy. They opened their hearts to believing things that God says are true. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ While at the retreat, many began to unpeel layers they didn’t know still needed God’s restoring hand. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Some began to see what was needed to move forward in their recovery, while others welcomed a fresh new freedom that comes from hope and healing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It was truly a supernatural weekend, but Monday came. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Bills had to paid, laundry piles were calling our names, and life’s fullness choked out time that many ladies STILL needed to continue to see how God was leading us on towards soul restoration. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And, my heart grew heavy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I know it is not my role or ability to heal, or restore souls...BUT, I am learning that God uses me to create safe spaces for women to take the time to engage in their heart's recovery. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ God is helping me see more confidently how He wants to use me to create space for women, and to comfort others with the comfort that I have received. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And, offering a “follow-up” option for the 2022 retreat ladies will be one of those spaces! ('m pretty excited about this, btw! .. more info later!) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Friends, what I want to share today is that the retreat, the relationships, the affirmation, and the retreat-follow-up have all led me to feeling a desire to become more equipped with tools that I can use as I walk alongside of women and offer them safe spaces to take time to move towards hope and healing! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ SO, I am taking a Biblical Coaching Course, and I'm pretty excited about it! My husband and I used to eat alot of picnic lunches in our first little yard. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I would lay the blanket out under the tree. Half in the shade. I’m sure I don’t know all of your deeply layered story. I was only there to take pictures for their website... But, I realized quickly that I may have been there for other reasons. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As soon as I stepped inside, I had a physical reaction. (how crazy is it, that our body and our feelings are so intertwined??) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Was it the subtle familiar smell of the old mansion? The sound of my feet going up the wooden stairs? The memories of the women sitting on the couches? The view of the (now) empty white chairs all lined up at that long table? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I'm not quite sure, but I think it was all of it.. as I stepped into each room and took pictures, I remembered the women who slept in those beds, and I just wanted to linger there. .. for a real long time. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I wanted to pray for the women, and I wanted to just sit in the special environment that made each of us feel hugged. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You see, something special happened on the #restorableretreat ... something far beyond me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The women and I find it hard to describe, as it was truly supernatural to feel God's love reach each of us in such deeply personal ways. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So, when I stepped inside, I kind of felt like the place was one big hug, and I can only imagine what special things God has in store for #restorableretreat 2022 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You wanna join us for the next one? Enjoy your people. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ laugh with them, and show them how much you delight in them. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Steal moments together in the midst of the mundane or ordinary, AND ALSO create intentional special moments to cultivate that relationship. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ children, spouses, friends… young or old.. Similar or different than you… Brand new or forever long… We were not meant to do this life alone. we were meant to be in relationships. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So May we let our people know how grateful we are for them, and may we take time to invest in these here valuable relationships. #jenminingerphotography #theheartfulphotogs

they received the news.. Chemo would be necessary for one of them. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So, they began moving forward with what they needed to do: phone calls, dr. appointments, tears, questions, hope, expectation... as well as... calling the family together for a photoshoot. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Then I showed up to serve this beautiful family, but (as so often happens) their joy, love & resiliency served me as they laughed, smiled and embraced each other. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You all have a truly beautiful family.. thank you for allowing me to capture your gifts!

I'm not saying that I fully understand these words spoken by a man who lost it all... (Job 1:21) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But, just because I don't understand, doesn't mean that it is not true. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ God IS good... all the time.... AND... part of His goodness is hurting with us when life hurts so bad.

I often give little "speeches", tips and sometimes "pep talks" throughout photo sessions.. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ One of those "Jen speeches" goes something like this- ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ "I will help you and guide you so you don't look awkward, BUT... I want YOU to tell yourself, YOU ARE DOING IT RIGHT!" (& so are your kids.. and hubby..and...)! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ To believe that you all are OK as you are, and to believe that you are NOT doing it wrong, is so LIBERATING! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And, I find that when you (& your people) feel FREE TO BE YOU.. I'm pretty sure that walking around the arts & crafts and car shows with my dad left a lasting impression on me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I would listen as he asked the artisans questions about their craft. My dad was mesmerized as he learned how each craftsman would create their one-of-a-kind piece of art. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ From painting, to jewelry, to cars, to wood and leather work, to knife forging... he had a respect for all of it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I wish I could've taken my daddy with me as I photographed this knife forger. He would've been so captivated. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But, this time, I got to go. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I used my craft to capture another craft. I got to ask the questions and learn about the art. I was mesmerized by the skill and the devotion to create one-of-a-kind knives for home and hobby. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ AND... as I watched this particular craftsman, bring the metal to the heat and hammer it over and over again... I began to imagine MY Master Craftsman. He crafted me in my mother's womb and continues to craft and refine me for a life filled with beauty and purpose. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I'm guessing that you too have experienced times where the "Master Craftsman" has allowed you to go through the heat? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Its been hot.. red hot.. painfully hot .. hasn't it? Yet, if you're like me, the heat has been used to soften me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Then, when He takes red-hot-me in my shape-able state, He sometimes hammers me, shaping me into His piece of art. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ BUT... even in the midst of the heat and the hammering, I can look to My Heavenly Craftsman and see the love and devotion in HIs every move. He has a passion for my good. He desires to bring out the beauty that is under those hard layers. She asked for a picture with the "little girls". "The women at the retreat privately named their valley. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We called it their “It”. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “IT”... “It” was the thing that knocks them over, makes them angry, or brings tears to their eyes. “It” is the thing that can somehow have more power over our day and our choices. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ They were honest with themselves and with God while they sat safely on the couches and in their bedrooms at the retreat. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Most of us wished that our hard thing wouldn’t even be real. We wanted it to go away, or if that couldn’t happen, then at least we wanted to HURRY UP and get OVER it! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ BUT, when we looked at Psalm 23, we saw that the Shepherd didn’t snatch the sheep out of the valley. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ He didn’t even rush them along by making them run night and day until they “passed through it”. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Rather, we noticed how the Shepherd encouraged the sheep to lie down in the very thick of it. After years of struggling to have hope... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ you finally believe that God says you are worthy, beautiful, forgiven, cherished and that you matter just as you are... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ BUT. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Then you turn and see that broken down car next to you, and you think... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “yeah, but not him. Not her. NOT them." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You (maybe subconsciously) believe that they are too far gone. You secretly believe that he will never change. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And, maybe you wouldn't say it, BUT, you believe that there is no hope for that person or people group.... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ WHAT IF GOD SAID THAT ABOUT YOU? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ HE DOESN'T. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ..Aren't we sort of like those cars in the junk yard???
